A £6.9m new school for Gorseinon will open on Monday.
The state-of-the-art development on a corner of Parc-y-Werin replaces the school’s outdated Victorian buildings and brings the infants and juniors together on one site.
The project has been jointly funded by Swansea Council and the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools and Colleges Programme.
Local firm Andrew Scott Ltd was contracted to build the school and despite the coronavirus pandemic it has worked safely and within government rules to ensure it can open for the new school year.
The new school boasts 11 modern and spacious classrooms, including a nursery, linked by a huge main corridor and break-out area known as the ‘Learning Street’, together with a main hall. Outside there is a multi-use games area and all-weather pitch and these will be made available for community use outside of school hours.
