Behind the scenes at Normanby Hall: Bell Pushes

Normanby Hall is a Regency country house near Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire. It is the historic home of the Sheffield family. The ground floor display rooms are decorated in architect, Robert Smirke’s original paint colours and furnished in Regency style.

The furnishings are based on two inventories dating from 1829 and 1840, which list the house contents in detail. Between 1964 and 1970, the curator developed the decorative arts collections by collecting furniture, textiles, ceramics, paintings, silver ware and costume for display in the Hall. North Lincolnshire Museum has continued to develop the collection and there is now a new temporary exhibition in the Hall every season.
