Car dependency for the school run is causing gridlock, dangerous levels of pollution and poor health among young people. But small changes can lead to big differences.
Supporting families is one of the Council’s key priorities and this film aims to help parents to make informed choices about school travel.
Walking or cycling to and from school is not only good exercise, it also boosts mental health and provides opportunities for socialising, as well as reducing carbon emissions, supporting our priority to invest in the natural environment through a Sustainable South Tyneside.
Teachers also report that students who cycle to school are more relaxed, alert and ready to start the day than those who travel by car.
Be part of the solution by walking, cycling, or taking the bus to school, if you can.
