Parade in the Park

On the 12th of June, 2016 Dover District Council held an event to celebrate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

The free-to-attend event took place in Kearsney Abbey.

As well as marking HM The Queen’s 90th birthday, the event celebrated the district’s strong links with the military community. The Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas, based at Sir John Moore Barracks in Folkestone performed two 30 minute sets.

The P&O Choir, winners of Gareth Malone’s 2013 BBC TV series, The Choir: Sing While You Work, also performed at the event.

The school children from Guston Sings (Guston Primary School) and Whitfield Glee Club (Whitfield Primary School) also performed. Their repertoire included a rendition of Happy Birthday!

Dover District Council encouraged people to walk, cycle or use public transport to attend the event. Parking restrictions were in place on local roads, and a free park-and-ride operated from the Crabble Athletic Ground with vintage buses, with the kind support of Dover Rugby Club and the Friends of the East Kent Road Car Company.
